On Monday 20 April 2015 the Court will hear the appeal of BPE Solicitors & Anor v Gabriel concerning whether a solicitor has a duty to give general commercial advice. This will be heard in Court 2 from 11am.

On Tuesday 21 April the Court will hear the appeal of Commissioners for Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs v The Rank Group PLC regarding whether the element of chance in a slot machine connected to a detached random number generator which is used by several such machines is ‘provided by means of the machine’. It will be heard in Court 2 from 10.30am.

On Wednesday 22 April the Court will hand down judgment in Jetivia SA & Anor v Bilta (UK) Ltd & Ors concerning the liquidation of the company Bilta (UK) Ltd and the conduct of its directors and sole shareholder, and R v GH, regarding whether an individual who opened a bank account, later used by another to store the proceeds of insurance fraud, commits the offence of entering or becoming concerned in an arrangement which he knows or suspects facilitates the acquisition, retention, use or control of criminal property by or on behalf of another person contrary to Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, s 328. These will be handed down in Court 2 from 9.45am.

On Wednesday the Court will also hear the appeal of Keyu & Ors v Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs & Anor regarding whether there is a legal duty to issue a public inquiry into the killing on 11-12 December 1948 of 24 unarmed civilians by a patrol of Scots Guards in the village of Batang Kali, Malaya. This will be heard in Court 1 from 10.30am and will continue on Thursday.

On Wednesday 22 April 2015 the Privy Council will hear the appeal of Pinard-Bryne v Linton regarding whether the Court of Appeal was wrong to have overturned the Judge’s rejection of the defence of qualified privilege following Reynolds v Times Newspapers Ltd [2001] 2 AC 127. This will be heard in Court 3 at 10.30am.
