Hearings in the Supreme Court are now shown live on the Court’s website.

On Monday 2 March 2015 the Court will hear the appeal of TN & MA (Afghanistan) (AP) v Secretary of State for the Home Department; AA (Afghanistan) v Secretary of State for the Home Department involving appellants who sought asylum in the UK as children. The Supreme Court must decide whether the appellant’s right to appeal the respondent’s decision refusing their asylum applications by judicial review was an effective remedy for the purposes of EU law, and whether the respondent had a duty to try to trace the families of unaccompanied children who seek asylum in Britain. It will be heard in Court 1 from 11am and will continue on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 10.30am.

On Wednesday 4 March it will hand down judgment in the following: JB (Jamaica) v Secretary of State for the Home Department concerning the appellant Secretary of State adding Jamaica to the list of states designated under the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002, s 94(4), which presumptively returns asylum seekers pending any appeal on the basis that the country is generally safe; R (Catt) v Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis & Anor and another case involving the retention of information relating to a protest group on a Police database. The Court must decide if the retention of data relating to the respondent protestors was lawful in terms of the ECHR, Art 8; and Fish & Fish Ltd v Sea Shepherd UK involving whether the respondent was liable either directly or vicariously because its ship was rammed as part of an international charity’s campaign, of which the appellant was a branch of, to stop illegal tuna fishing. They will be handed down in Court 1 from 9.45am.

On Monday 2 March 2015 the Privy Council will hand down judgment in Pora v The Queen (New Zealand). It will be handed down in Court 3 at 9am. On Wednesday it will hear the appeal of Hall v Maritek Bahamas Limited (Bahamas) regarding whether there was a binding contract between the parties, and if so, whether a deposit was lodged by the appellant.
