The Supreme Court has one substantive appeal listed this week – the case of R(A) v B, concerning the relationship between the Administrative Court and the Investigatory Powers Tribunal. Our Case Preview is here. This will be heard on Monday 19 October and Tuesday 20 October. For the case details see here. JUSTICE is again an intervener in this appeal but has not, as yet, published its written submissions.
The case of
SK (Zimbabwe) v Secretary of State for Home Department, originally listed for Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 October has been taken out of the list.
On Thursday 22 October, the Court will hear the adjourned “anonymity application” in the case of A v HM Treasury. An anonymity order was made at the outset of the original hearing but only on an interim basis – see our earlier posts, here and here.
This case is currently listed before 5 justices – rather than the 7 who dealt with the original appeal and application.
The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council is listed to hear three cases (although its website continues to tell us that there are no cases listed). We do not, at present, have copies of the judgments appealed against in any of these cases. If any readers have copies we will post them:
19 October 2009
Ramdass v Bahaw-Nanan – a Trinidad and Tobago case concerning the service of notice to quit by a landlord
20 October 2009
Johnson and Balwant v Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago: a case concerning discrimination on the ground of sex, relating to Regulations which permit women in public employment to be sacked if they marry. The first instance decision is here.
21 October 2009
Nadine Rodrigues v Minister of Housing: A Gibraltar case concerning the refusal by the Minister of Housing to grant a joint tenancy to a lesbian couple. Pink News has an article about the case here.
The Supreme Court website has posted a revised List of of “Future Sittings” – dealing with the sittings commencing on 19 October 2009 to the end of term.
