Hearings in the Supreme Court are now shown live on the Court’s website.

On Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 February, the Supreme Court will hear the appeal of Cape Intermediate Ltd v Dring (for and on behalf of Asbestos Victims Support Groups Forum UK). This appeal will consider whet the powers of the court are pursuant to the Civil Procedure Rules or its inherent jurisdiction to permit access to documents used in litigation to which the applicant was not a party. This will be heard in Courtroom 1.

On Monday 18 February, the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council will hear the appeal of Galantis v Alexiou & Anor (Bahamas). This appeal will consider whether the Court of Appeal misinterpreted the Companies Act 1992, s 272 as being applicable, and whether it erred in disturbing Hepburn J’s conclusions on the law. This will be heard in Courtroom 3.

On Wednesday 20 February, the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council will hear the appeal of C v C (Jersey). This appeal will consider whether it was open to Jersey courts to treat the appellant as a ‘parent’ for the purpose of orders for financial provision under the Children (Jersey) Law 2002. This will be heard in Courtroom 3.

On Wednesday 20 February, the Supreme Court will hand down judgment in Cameron v Liverpool Victoria Insurance Co Limited. The proposed panel for hand down is Lord Reed, Lord Sumption and Lord Hodge. This appeal considered whether a claimant is entitled to bring a claim for damages against an unnamed defendant if the claimant has been the victim of an unidentified hit-and-run driver, and the car the unidentified driver was driving is covered by an insurance policy, albeit in the name of someone untraceable.

On Thursday 21 February, the Supreme Court will hear the appeal of Telereal Trillium v Hewitt (Valuation Officer). This appeal will consider whether regard should be given, when ascertaining the rateable value of a property under the statutory hypothesis in the Local Government Finance Act 1988, Sch 6, para 2(1), to general demand for comparable properties in the market. It will also consider what the relevance is, if any, to the ascertainment of rateable value under the statutory hypothesis, of the absence of an actual prospective tenant who would pay a positive price in order to occupy the property at the valuation date. This will be heard in Courtroom 2.
