Hearings in the Supreme Court are now shown live on the Court’s website.
On Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 March, the Supreme Court will hear the appeal of Secretary of State for Work & Pensions v Gubeladze. This appeal will consider whether the UK’s decision to extend the applicability of Workers’ Registration Scheme (which applied to individuals coming to work in the UK from the eight Accession States which joined the EU in 2004) by two years was lawful. This will be heard in Courtroom 1.
On Tuesday 12 March, the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council will hear the appeal of Shanda Games Ltd v Maso Capital Investments Ltd & Ors (Cayman Islands). This will be heard in Courtroom 3.
On Wednesday 13 March, the Supreme Court will hand down judgment in Robinson (formerly JR (Jamaica)) v Secretary of State for the Home Department. The proposed panel for hand down is Lord Reed, Lord Lloyd-Jones and Lord Briggs. This appeal considered whether the right to appeal against the refusal of a ‘human rights claim’ pursuant to the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002, s 82, includes determinations by the Secretary of State that further submissions do not amount to a ‘fresh claim’ under the Immigration Rules, para 353.
On Wednesday 13 March, the Supreme Court will hand down judgment in Commissioners for HMRC v Joint Administrators of Lehman Brothers International (Europe) (In Administration). The proposed panel for hand down is Lord Reed, Lord Lloyd-Jones and Lord Briggs. This appeal considered whether statutory interest constitutes ‘yearly interest’ for the purposes of the Income Tax Act 2007, s 874(1).
On Thursday 14 March, the Supreme Court will hear the appeal of In the matter of an application by Dennis Hutchings for Judicial Review (Northern Ireland). This appeal will consider whether, on a true construction of condition 4 in the Justice and Security (Northern Ireland) Act 2007, s 1, it embraces members of the security forces in Northern Ireland accused of offences that are not part of sectarian violence. It will also consider whether the ordinary rules of natural justice apply to the issuance of a certificate under s 1 of the 2007 Act. This will be heard in Courtroom 1.
