Lord Neuberger, in a speech confirming his and other members’ upcoming retirements from the Supreme Court, has set out a path for new judicial appointments designed to increase the diversity of the Bench.

There has been a large media coverage, for example here and here, as the Supreme Court is currently comprised of a broadly homogeneous group in terms of race, age, education and gender (Lady Hale excepted). Increased diversity is regarded as a positive move for the UK’s highest court.
