On Tuesday 26 January 2016 the Supreme Court will hear the appeal of R (Ismail) v Secretary of State for the Home Department regarding the extent of the Secretary of State’s discretion under the Crime (International Co-Operation) Act 2003, s 1(3), after being requested by the Egyptian Authorities to serve a copy of a final judgment to the respondent, detailing that his original acquittal for causing death by negligence was overturned. It will be heard in Court 2 from 10.30am and will continue on Wednesday.

On Wednesday 27 January it will hand down judgment in the following appeals: Mirga v Secretary of State for Work and Pensions; Samin v Westminster City Council where the Court had to determine whether an EU citizen enjoys a right of residence if he or she cannot be removed from a host state except in breach of fundamental rights; whether the social security authorities awarding benefit were able to determine whether an EU citizen has such a right to reside; and whether the social security authorities were obliged to consider whether it was proportionate to refuse income support to the appellants in their individual cases; R (C) v Secretary of State for Justice concerning whether mental health patients conducting litigation in the civil courts are entitled to a presumption of anonymity; and Youssef v Secretary of State for Foreign & Commonwealth Affairs involving whether the Foreign Secretary was entitled to allow Mr Youssef to be added to the United Nations’ list of people subject to asset freezing. These will be handed down in Court 1 from 9.45am.

On Thursday 28 January it will hear the appeal of Knauer v Ministry of Justice concerning the appropriate date for the assessment of multipliers in claims for future loss under the Fatal Accidents Act 1976; whether the appropriate date is the date of death or the date of trial. It will be heard in Court 2 from 10.30am.

On Monday 25 January the Privy Council will hand down judgment in Ferguson v The Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago and other cases; Hallman Holding Ltd v Webster & Anor (Anguilla); and Williams v The Bermuda Hospitals Board (Bermuda). On Monday it will also hear the appeal In the matter of Baronetcy of Pringle of Stichill regarding which of the applicant or the respondent is the legitimate successor to the Baronetcy of Stichill. It will be heard in Court 1 from 11am following the judgment hand downs. On Tuesday 26 January it will hear the appeal of Ennismore Fund Management Ltd v Fenris Consulting Ltd (Cayman Islands) concerning whether the Court of Appeal of the Cayman Islands erred in its construction of a clawback agreement. This will be heard in Court 1 from 10.30am.
