Hearings in the Supreme Court are now shown live on the Court’s website.

On Wednesday 26 April, the Supreme Court will hear the appeal of R (Cardiff & Vale University Health Board & Ors) v Ceredigion County Council & Ors. This will consider whether the NHS (through Local Health Boards) is required to fund registered nurses in care homes only when they are providing nursing care, or also when they are providing social care to certain residents. This will be heard in Courtroom 2.

On Wednesday 26 April and Thursday 27 April, the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council will hear the appeals of Lendore & Anor v The AG of Trinidad & Tobago and Bullock & Ors v The AG of Trinidad & Tobago. These will consider whether, in imposing terms of imprisonment upon commutation of the appellants’ death sentences, the President exercised a sentencing function and thereby acted contrary to the separation of powers and the Constitution, s 4. They will also consider whether the terms of imprisonment imposed by the President amounted to cruel and unusual punishment contrary to the Constitution, s 5, and if so, whether the appellants are entitled to judicial determination of the appropriate remedy. These will be heard in Courtroom 3.

On Thursday 27 April, the Supreme Court will hear the appeal of Goldtrail Travel Ltd (in liquidation) v Onur Air Tasimacilik AS. This will consider in what circumstances a Court should take into account the position of third parties who might be in a position to fund a litigant, when considering whether that litigant’s claim or defence is likely to be stifled by a requirement that it post security for costs. This will be heard in Courtroom 2.
