Hearings in the Supreme Court are now shown live on the Court’s website.

On Tuesday 15 December, the Supreme Court will hear the case of General Dynamics United Kingdom Ltd v State of Libya. The appeal will consider how commercial interactions with foreign states are governed by the State Immunity Act 1978, specifically issues surrounding the enforcement of an arbitral award against a foreign state within this framework.

On Wednesday 16 December, the Supreme Court will hand down two judgments. The first is R (on the application of Friends of the Earth Ltd and Ors) v Heathrow Airport. The appeal considered whether the Secretary of State’s failure to take account of the UK’s climate change commitments under the Paris Agreement rendered unlawful the designation of the Airports National Policy Statement favouring the development of a third runway at Heathrow Airport. The second is Robinson (Jamaica) v Secretary of State for the Home Department. The appeal considered whether the Court of Justice of the European Union’s admonition that a non-EU citizen who is the primary carer for an EU citizen child may only be deported in “exceptional circumstances” is a summary of the conditions that must be met to justify deportation, or an additional threshold.

The hand-downs will be streamed on Supreme Court Live and will then be made available on the Supreme Court’s video on demand service.
