On Tuesday 2 December 2014 the Court will hear the appeal of R (Catt) v Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis & Anor and another case involving the retention of information relating to a protest group on a Police database. The Court must decide if the retention of data relating to the respondent protestors was lawful in terms of the ECHR, Art 8. It will be heard in Court 2 from 10.30am and will continue on Wednesday and Thursday.

On Wednesday 3 December the Court will hand down judgment in the following: Recovery of Medical Costs for Asbestos Diseases (Wales) Bill – Reference by the Counsel General for Wales involving whether the National Assembly for Wales has the power to enact the Recovery of Medical Costs Asbestos Diseases (Wales) Bill that was passed in November 2013; and Loveridge v Mayor and Burgess of the London Borough of Lambeth involving whether the Court of Appeal was wrong to hold that any hypothetical step a landlord could take to affect the tenant’s security of tenure was relevant to determining the value of the landlord’s interest in the building at the time immediately before an unlawful eviction for the purpose of assessing damages under the Housing Act 1988, s28. They will be handed down in Court 1 from 9.45am.

On Tuesday 2 December the Privy Council will hear the appeal of Asset Recovery Agency (Exparte) (Jamaica) involving whether it was necessary to establish that there has been a conviction for a substantive offence in order to obtain a customer information order under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2007, s 119. This will be heard in Court 3 at 10.30am.
