Hearings in the Supreme Court are now shown live on the Court’s website.
On Tuesday 2 October, the Supreme Court will hold the swearing in ceremony for the three new justices, and that of the new Deputy President of the Supreme Court and Baroness Hale as the new President.
On Wednesday 4 October, the Supreme Court will hear the appeal of O’Connor v Bar Standards Board. This appeal will consider whether, where a person claims that a prosecution has been brought in breach of her human rights, the time limit for bringing proceedings under the HRA 1998 runs from the date of her acquittal/conviction, or the date on which any appeals are granted. Also considering whether the High Court judge was correct to conclude, for the purposes of the summary judgment application, that the appellant’s claim of indirect discrimination contrary to ECHR, arts 6 and 14 had a real prospect of success. This will be heard in Courtroom 2.
On Wednesday 4 until Thursday 5 October, the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council will hear the appeal of DD Growth Premium 2X Fund (In Official Liquidation) v RMF Market Neutral Strategies (Master) Ltd (Cayman Islands). This appeal will consider whether payments made for the redemption of shares were unlawful, and if not, whether they are recoverable (or whether the latter issue should be remitted to the Grand Court to decide). This issue turns on the correct construction of the Cayman Islands Companies Law, ss 37(6), 37(3) and 34(2). This will be heard in Courtroom 3.
