It was announced on Wednesday that Lord Dyson will succeed Lord Neuberger as Master of the Rolls, as Lord Neuberger will be leaving the role to become the next Supreme Court president. The current incumbent of the role, Lord Phillips, was previously Senior Lord of Appeal in Ordinary before the role was transferred to the Supreme Court.  He is retiring in order to take on senior international judicial roles and said of Lord Neuberger’s appointment:

“I know we have an extremely talented new president, who brings not only a wealth of judicial experience but the ability to lead a collegiate court. I wish him all the very best and I only hope that he enjoys this very special honour as much as I have.”

Lord Dyson was quoted in a Number 10 press release as being “delighted and honoured” to be working in the Court of Appeal again. His move will open another space on the Supreme Court bench.
