On Wednesday 5 February 2020, the Supreme Court will hand down judgment in A Reference by the Attorney General for Northern Ireland of devolution issues to the Supreme Court pursuant to Paragraph 34 of Schedule 10 to the Northern Ireland Act 1998. This appeal will consider whether the reference raises a devolution issue.

On Wednesday 5 February 2020, the Supreme Court will also hand down judgment in R (Samuel Smith Old Brewery & Ors) v North Yorkshire County Council. This appeal will consider whether North Yorkshire County Council misapplied paragraph 90 of the National Planning Policy Framework when considering mineral extraction in the Green Belt.

From Monday 3 February 2020 until Wednesday 5 February 2020, the Privy Council will hear the appeals of Commissioner of the Independent Commission of Investigations v Police Federation & Ors (Jamaica) and Dave Lewin (Director of Complaints of the Independent Commission of Investigations) v Diah & Ors (Jamaica) These appeals will consider, inter alia, whether the Independent Commission of Investigations Act or any other statute or the common law empowers the Independent Commission of Investigations, the Commissioner and/or INDECOM’s investigative staff to arrest and/or initiate a prosecution against any person in respect of any offence arising from a completed or ongoing INDECOM investigation.
