On Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 June 2020, the UK Supreme Court will hear the appeal of R (Z & Anor)(AP) v Hackney London Borough Council & Anor. This appeal will consider whether the Second Respondent can lawfully restrict the provision of its social housing to members of the Orthodox Jewish community and whether the First Respondent can lawfully maintain its housing nomination arrangements with the Second Respondent.
On Wednesday 1 July 2020, the Supreme Court will hand down judgment in R v Hilton (Northern Ireland). This appeal considers where property is held by the defendant and another person, the circumstances in which the court is making a confiscation order required by the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, s 160A in determining the available amount, to give that other person a reasonable opportunity to make representations to it at the time the order is made.
On Wednesday 1 July 2020, the Supreme Court will hand down judgment in Villiers v Villiers. This appeal will consider, inter alia, whether the courts of England and Wales have the power to stay an application for maintenance pursuant to the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973, s 27 on the grounds of forum non conveniens when divorce proceedings are taking place in Scotland.
On Wednesday 1 July 2020, the Privy Council will hear the appeal of Presidential Insurance Company Ltd v Twitz & Anor (Trinidad & Tobago). This appeal will consider inter alia whether the Court of Appeal correctly interpreted ss.4(7) and 10(1) of the Motor Vehicle Insurance (Third Party Risks) Act Ch 48:51.
On Thursday 2 July 2020, the Privy Council will hear the appeal of David & Ors v The Queen (Bahamas). This appeal will consider inter alia whether the convictions of Stubbs and Davis for murder and attempted murder were rendered unsafe by (i) the trial Judge’s handling of evidence at trial or (ii) the trial Judge’s directions to the jury.
