On Monday 25 March, the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council will hear the appeal of Singh v Public Service Commission (Trinidad & Tobago). This appeal will consider whether the Court of Appeal of Trinidad & Tobago erred in its determination of the manner of the administration of promotions within the Trinidad & Tobago Police Service. This will be heard in Courtroom 3.

On Tuesday 26 March, the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council will hear the appeal of Sahatoo v the Attorney General of Trinidad & Tobago (Trinidad & Tobago). This appeal will consider whether the appellant had been subjected to unequal treatment by a public authority contrary to the Constitution of Trinidad & Tobago, s 4(d), in particular whether there were sufficiently material differences between him and other officers. This will be heard in Courtroom 3.

On Wednesday 27 March, the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council will hear the appeal of Smart v Director of Personnel Administration & Anor; Almarales & Anor v Director of Personnel Administration & Anor (Trinidad & Tobago). This appeal will consider, among other things, whether the decision of the Judicial and Legal Service Commission to authorise the public advertisement of the vacancies in issue was lawful, including whether it breached the Public Service commission Regulations, reg 18; it was unreasonable; procedurally unfair; or in breach of legitimate expectations. This will be heard in Courtroom 3.

On Wednesday 27 March, the Supreme Court will hand down judgment in Actavis Group PTC EHF & Ors v ICOS Corporation & Anor. The proposed panel for hand down is Lord Wilson, Lord Hodge and Lord Lloyd-Jones. This appeal considered what the correct test for obviousness is in the context of assessing the validity of a pharmaceutical patent.

On Wednesday 27 March, the Supreme Court will hand down judgment in R & S Pilling t/a Phoenix Engineering v UK Insurance Ltd. The proposed panel for hand down is Lord Wilson, Lord Hodge and Lord Lloyd-Jones. This appeal considered whether, on its true construction, a policy of motor insurance covers extends to liability for damage to the property of third parties because of fire caused by repair work to the car when it is immobilised.

On Thursday 28 March, the Supreme Court will hear the oral permission hearing in the case of Computer Associates (UK) Ltd v The Software Incubator Ltd. This appeal will consider whether software supplied to customers electronically and not on any tangible medium constitutes ‘goods’ within the meaning of the Commercial Agents (Council Directive) Regulations 1993/3053, reg 2(1). This will be heard in Courtroom 2.
