Hearings in the Supreme Court are now shown live on the Court’s website.

On Monday 25 January, the Supreme Court will hear the case of G v G. The appeal will consider three points: (1) Does a child named as a dependent on a parent’s asylum application have any protection from refoulement? (2) Can a return order be made under the 1980 Hague Convention even where a child has protection from refoulement? (3) Should the High Court be slow to stay an application under the 1980 Hague Convention prior to determination of an application for asylum?

On Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 January, the Supreme Court will hear the case of Balhousie Holdings Ltd v Commissioners for Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (Scotland). The appeal will consider whether the sale and leaseback of a care home involve the disposal of the owner’s entire interest, such that it effectively lost the benefit of zero-rating under paragraph 36(2) of Schedule 10 to the Value Added Tax Act 1994.

On Thursday 28 January, the Supreme Court will hear the case of CPRE Kent v Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. The appeal will consider whether a claimant in statutory and judicial review cases who is unsuccessful at the permission stage should be liable for the costs of multiple other parties, including respondents and interested parties.
