There are two appeals scheduled in the Supreme Court this week. In Courtroom 2, on Monday 22 to Wednesday 24 November Lords Mance, Kerr and Clarke, Sir John Dyson SCJ and Lord Saville of Newdigate will hear linked cases, Baker v Quantum Clothing Group Limited & Ors; Baker v Quantum Clothing Group Limited & Ors (Pretty Polly Limited); and Baker v Quantum Clothing Group Limited & Ors (Meridian Limited).   The court will consider the liability of employers in the knitting industry of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire for their employees’ hearing loss due to exposure to noise at a lower level than that which was generally recognised as giving rise to liability in the past. In Courtroom 1 Lords Phillips, Hope, Rodger and Walker, Lady Hale, and Lords Brown and Collins will hear the following linked cases over two days from 23 to 24 November: Mayor & Burgesses of the London Borough of Hounslow v Powell; Leeds City Council v Hall; and Birmingham City Council v Frisby. The issue for the court is whether the exercise of human rights can affect possession proceedings in the context of an introductory tenant facing a possession order and claiming a public law defence.
