On Monday 10 November 2014 the Court will hear the appeal of BP Shipping Ltd & Anor v Braganza involving the investigations carried out by the respondent upon the disappearance of one of its employees. The Court must consider what evidence is needed for an employer to come to the conclusion that a missing employee has committed suicide and how they then must treat that finding in regards to contractual death benefits for the employee’s partner. It will be heard in Court 2 from 10.30am.

On Tuesday 11 November the Court will hear the appeal of Great Glasgow Health Board v Doogan & Anor regarding whether the Abortion Act 1967, s 4(1), entitle a Labour Ward Co-ordinator to refuse to delegate to, supervise and/or support midwives providing care to patients undergoing termination procedures because of their Roman Catholic beliefs. It will be heard in Court 2 from 10.30am.

On Wednesday 12 November the Court will hand down judgment in the following: R (Lord Carlile of Berriew QC & Ors) v SSHD regarding whether the respondents decision to prohibit an Iranian dissident from entering the UK was proportionate and/or an infringement of the appellants freedom of expression rights under the ECHR, Art 10; Plevin v Paragon Personal Finance Ltd regarding the definition and breadth of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, s 140A(1)(c); R (ZH &CN) v London Borough of Newham and London Borough of Lewisham regarding whether temporary accommodation provided under the Housing Act 1996, part VII, to an applicant for assistance on the basis of homelessness constitutes a “premises occupied as a dwelling under licence” for the purposes of the Protection from Eviction Act 1977, s 3(2)(B); and Sims v Dacorum Borough Council regarding the lawfulness of the rule in Hammersmith & Fulham LBC v Monk allowing a landlord to terminate a periodic tenancy when only one of the tenants have given notice. These cases will be handed down in Court 1 from 9.45am.

On Wednesday the Court will also hear the appeal of Beghal v DPP regarding the Terrorism Act 2000, Sch 7, and whether it engages the ECHR, Arts 5, 6, and 8. It involved the appellant being stopped and searched upon arrival to East Midlands Airport and subsequently questioned by Police Officers from Leicestershire Constabulary after visiting her husband who was being held in French custody in relation to terrorist offences. This will be heard in Court 2 from 10.30am and will continue on Thursday.

On Monday 10 November the Privy Council will hand down judgments in Price Waterhouse Coopers v Saad Investment Company Ltd & Anor; Singularis Holdings Ltd v Price Waterhouse Coopers; Alhamrani & Ors v Alhamrani; and Dixon v Kingdom of Spain. It will also hear the appeal of Central Bank of Equador & Ors v Conticorp SA & Ors involving a director’s alleged breach of fiduciary duties. This will be heard in Court 3 pending the judgment hand downs at 10.30am and will continue on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 10am.
